From September 2011 you’ll be able to download a selection of RYA publications to your iPad®, iPhone® and iPod touch® with the new FREE ‘RYA Books’ app, available from the App StoreSM (*iOS3.2 or later). The free app includes both taster editions so you can have a look at what the eBooks are all about and a selection of RYA titles for you to purchase and download in full.
Steen Ingerslev, RYA Publications Manager explains more about this great new RYA offer. “This is something we’ve been looking into ever since the news broke of the very first iPad® and it gives us the opportunity to take our publications to the next exciting level.
“The iPad® was a real game changer, it represented a seismic shift for the publishing industry and if you look at how many of these devices are being sold every single day you’ll see that things will never be quite the same again.
“The functionality that these tablet and other mobile devices offer now opens up the scope of how we can look at bringing our books alive and demonstrate all the key skills contained within. It has quite literally thrown our creative imagination into overdrive!
“We will start with embedding animation and video content but with the rate that technology advances, who knows where we’ll be in a year!
“Our approach is to enhance the books we’ve currently got but as we learn what works that will naturally feed into the very core of how our books are produced in the first place. While we’ve put together the best priority list we can with the information to hand I welcome our members to email ebooks@rya.org.uk if they have any burning desire to see one of our books as an eBook and I promise that we’ll take it into consideration.”

“I see this as an enhancement to our fantastic stable of ‘how to’ publications. The eBooks are user friendly with easy navigation and are packed with enhanced interactive content and video.
“So far we are just working with Apple products but we are already looking at providing the books via Android devices for later this year”, concluded Steen.
